Dotted throughout the city of Gwangju, South Korea are hilltop peaks that unless flattened for development, are utilized by the local community for agricultural production. You can also find small open huts constructed by the older generation for social gatherings. A brisk 30-minute walk from my apartment was a hilltop that was being reclaimed by the neighborhood and the natural elements. It was not an attractive setting, but the vegetation was vigorous and it was free to roam. When the weather was ideal- overcast but bright- I would hurry to this spot, looking for a chance to photograph the flora. Given the manic fluctuation of the weather, I would often miss my opportunity and move on elsewhere. The images in this series are a small selection of work I completed on that particular hilltop.
